History

The organisation was founded by fifty Pakistani doctors who met at the Student-Teacher Center (STC) of the University of the Punjab in October 1979.[2] This group laid the foundation for the Pakistan Doctors' Forum (PDF), a fraternity of medical professionals and continued to operate for two more years. In April 1981, during a PDF convention in Rawalpindi, the organisation was renamed the "Pakistan Islamic Medical Association," (PIMA). PIMA is an active member of the Federation of Islamic Medical Associations (FIMA), an international forum for collaboration among Islamic medical associations. PIMA has been operating for 25 years as a medical institute serving the residents of Pakistan.

Activities

Since its inception, PIMA has worked to professionally develop and train doctors while incorporating Islam via its regular Dawah, training workshops, and seminars. PIMA relief has routinely provided aid during national and international emergencies, including earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, cyclones, and wars.[3] PIMA has established medical institutions containing professionals of types.

Their health institutions, such as hospitals, clinics, free medical camps, and specialized campaigns, offer medical aid for patients around their respective locales. The Prevention of Blindness Trust,[4] a key PIMA project, aids in the prevention of blindness in both Pakistan and internationally. PIMA has collaborated with FIMA,[5] such as on the Consortium of Islamic Medical Colleges (CIMCO), Islamic Hospital Consortium (IHC), FIMA Save Vision,[6] FIMA Save Dignity, and other joint missions. Mega-projects such as the Peshawar Medical College and the Mega Pharmaceutical Industry are some notable accomplishments.
